Waiting on Wednesday: House of Secrets

New WoW

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted over at Breaking the Spine, looking at upcoming books we bloggers are already obsessing about. This week, I’m eagerly anticipating House of Secrets by Chris Colombus and Ned Vizzini.

Already being pushed hard in the bookselling and publishing world, this new YA Fantasy/Adventure series has garnered praise from J K Rowling. I was lucky enough to be gifted an ARC of this from work (In a very sexy embossed box, no less!) and I can’t wait to see if the hype’s deserved. House of Secrets is due to be released in April.

HoS“The Walker kids had it all: loving parents, a big house in San Francisco, all the latest video games . . . but everything changed when their father lost his job as a result of an inexplicable transgression. Now the family is moving into Kristoff House, a mysterious place built nearly a century earlier by Denver Kristoff, a troubled writer with a penchant for the occult.

Suddenly the siblings find themselves launched on an epic journey into a mash-up world born of Kristoff’s dangerous imagination, to retrieve a dark book of untold power, uncover the Walker family’s secret history and save their parents . . . and maybe even the world.”

  1. Is this YA or Middle Grade? Cover looks very MG-ish. I bet the physical copy is gorgeous. Happy reading!

  2. It’s really lovely, and I think I like the ARC cover better than the actual cover design! I’m not sure what are it’s aimed at, but I think you’re right about it being more middle grade.

Have you read/heard of Stefan Bachmann’s The Peculiar? That’s middle grade too (kinda sorta, a little cross over to YA). And it was probably the best YA Fantasy I read last year. SO GORGEOUS.

    Thanks for the comment Nemo!!

  3. Fair enough ^_^
